A note on environments

You will see four environments referenced throughout this guide:

• Production — the live customer system. Real takedowns happen here.
• Staging — pre-production. Same routes as production, but external effects (email, provider submissions) go to safe sinks.
• Demo — the sales theatre. Curated fixtures and scripted journeys at unphish-demo.engram.org. No real mutations.
• Workbench — developer / QA sandbox. Same data contracts as production with provider transport switched to fixture or sandbox mode.

If you are following these guides for training, do it in staging unless explicitly told otherwise.
